Club Med operates eleven sun resorts between the Indian Ocean and Asia: Kani and the Finolhu Villas in the Maldives, La Pointe aux Canonniers and La Plantation d'Albion in Mauritius, the Seychelles, Bali and Bintan in Indonesia, Phuket in Thailand, Kabira Ishigaki in Japan, and Guilin and Lijiang in China. Two changes mark the season: Cherating Beach, in Malaysia, closes on October 11, 2026 for a major renovation, and the new Club Med Borneo opens in Sabah. These are long trips from Montreal, best planned for ten days or more, and often worth combining with a city stopover.

Which Club Med resorts are open in Asia and the Indian Ocean?

In the Indian Ocean, Kani and the Finolhu Villas share an atoll in the Maldives, La Pointe aux Canonniers and La Plantation d'Albion sit on two coasts of Mauritius, and the Seychelles resort is the only property on Sainte-Anne island, in a marine park. In Southeast Asia, there are Bali, in Nusa Dua, Bintan, in Indonesia, and Phuket, in Kata. Further north, Kabira Ishigaki is on a subtropical island in the Okinawa archipelago, and Guilin and Lijiang open the door to rural China.

What is changing in 2026 and 2027?

Cherating Beach, Club Med's very first resort in Asia, closes on October 11, 2026 for a major renovation in its Malaysian jungle; trade press expects it to reopen around late 2027, a date still to be confirmed. Club Med Borneo, on a beach in the Kuala Penyu district of Sabah, is announced for late 2026 with about 400 rooms, including an area of Exclusive Collection suites. As of this writing, its booking calendar offers stays from February 2027. Further resorts are announced for 2028 in Koh Samui, Thailand, and Manado, Indonesia.

Maldives, Mauritius or Seychelles?

In the Maldives, people come for the water: Kani is an island resort about 25 minutes by speedboat from Malé, with overwater bungalows on the lagoon, and the Finolhu Villas, for guests aged 8 and over, offer villas with butler service. Mauritius is the most versatile: La Pointe aux Canonniers, on a northern peninsula with two beaches, suits families, and La Plantation d'Albion, rated Exclusive Collection, faces the sunset on the west coast. The Seychelles, also Exclusive Collection, focuses on unspoiled nature in a national marine park.

Which resort is best with young children?

La Pointe aux Canonniers, Bali, Phuket and the new Borneo resort offer Baby Club Med from 4 months, at extra cost, on top of the clubs for ages 4 to 17 included in the package. Phuket also has a family area with a water park. La Plantation d'Albion, the Seychelles, Bintan and Kabira Ishigaki start their clubs with Petit Club Med, at age 2. Kani has no club for children under 4, and the Finolhu Villas only accept guests aged 8 and over.

Which resort suits a honeymoon or an adults-only trip?

The Finolhu Villas in the Maldives are the most obvious answer: overwater or beach villas and butler service. La Plantation d'Albion and the Seychelles, both Exclusive Collection, suit couples looking for more attentive service and a quieter setting. For a honeymoon that combines beach and discovery, Bali remains a safe bet.

What about China and Japan?

These are discovery resorts more than beach resorts. Guilin spreads over 46 hectares among the karst mountains along the Li River, and Lijiang opens onto the landscapes of Yunnan. In Japan, Kabira Ishigaki offers a subtropical beach far from Tokyo's crowds. When should you go?

Each destination has its own rainy season, and they do not fall in the same months: what is ideal in Mauritius is not necessarily ideal in the Maldives or Phuket at the same time. Some resorts also close for a few weeks a year, such as La Plantation d'Albion, closed from May 7 to July 3, 2027 according to Club Med's calendar. Your advisor matches your dates with the weather and each resort's calendar before suggesting an address.

How do you get there from Montreal?

Each of these resorts takes a long day of travel, sometimes more. For Japan, Montreal to Tokyo is non-stop, followed by a connection to Ishigaki. For Mauritius, the Seychelles and the Maldives, you usually connect through Europe or the Middle East. For Bali, Phuket and Bintan, an Asian connection is added, and Bintan is reached by ferry from Singapore. Transfers on arrival range from 25 minutes by boat to Kani to about two hours by road to Borneo. Your advisor builds the routing and, if needed, suggests a stopover night so you arrive rested.

What should you know before you go?

These trips need more preparation than a week down south: entry formalities specific to each country, recommended vaccinations, power adapters and a major time difference. In Malaysia, Club Med only serves alcohol to guests aged 21 and over, in line with local law. Your advisor gives you the formalities for your destination and reminds you to check your passport's validity well before departure.
