Club Med Cherating Beach at a glance

Club Med Cherating Beach is an all-inclusive resort on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, in the state of Pahang, set in 85 hectares of jungle on the South China Sea. Club Med's first resort in Asia, opened in 1979, it houses its 297 rooms in kampong-style wooden stilt houses and takes part in a sea turtle protection programme. People come for nature: cliff climbing above the beach, forest trails, kayaking and sailing. Families find clubs from birth to 17, and adults have a reserved Zen pool. From October 11, 2026, the resort enters a renovation to reopen as a more refined all-inclusive resort.

Is Club Med Cherating Beach open in 2026-2027?

The resort welcomes its last guests before the works until October 11, 2026. Club Med then begins the biggest transformation in its history at Cherating: it aims to make it a more refined all-inclusive resort, keeping its light footprint and its jungle at the heart of the project. Five new experiences are announced: the Jungle Express, to cross the forest, guided discovery trails, a cliffside climbing challenge, a farm-to-table meal in the jungle and a firefly cruise in the mangrove. Club Med will announce the reopening date, and our advisors keep you posted as soon as it is known.

How do you get to Cherating from Quebec?

You take flights from Montreal, with a connection, to Kuala Lumpur, then a short domestic flight to Kuantan. From Kuantan airport, it is 45 minutes by road to the resort. You can also drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport: 4 hours 30 minutes through plantations and hills, a fine introduction for anyone who likes to see the country. Your advisor arranges the flights and transfers with the package.

Why is Cherating called a jungle resort?

Because the rainforest runs right down to the beach. Rooms are spread across wooden stilt houses among tall trees, and you fall asleep to the song of insects. The botanical trail, wildlife discovery outings and the insect hotel are part of the package. The resort holds Green Globe certification. And with local rangers, it protects sea turtles: every week, children take part in games that simulate searching for and protecting eggs at the sanctuary.

Which activities are included at Club Med Cherating Beach?

The star is outdoor climbing on the cliffs above the beach, from age 11. Add forest trail running, the flying trapeze, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddle yoga, tennis, padel and squash. Cooking classes introduce Malaysian flavours, and the Petit Chef workshop keeps the youngest busy. Some thirty activities are included in all.

Is the resort suitable for families with young children?

Yes, Cherating welcomes children from birth. Baby Club Med takes ages 0 to 2 and Petit Club Med ages 2 and 3, with limited spots to book early. Mini Club Med takes over from 4 to 10, followed by Club Med Teens from 11 to 17. Club Pyjamas, at extra cost, looks after little ones in the evening so parents can enjoy dinner for two. For children, the jungle, the turtles and the insects become a great playground for discovery.

Will couples enjoy it too?

Absolutely. The Zen pool, with its bar, is reserved for adults: you spend the afternoon in peace with a book. The 55 m² Suite and dinner at Le Rembulan facing the sea make lovely evenings for two. Alcohol is served to guests 21 and over, under Malaysian law.

What is the food like at Club Med Cherating Beach?

Le Mutiara, the main restaurant, has a poolside terrace and serves dishes created by chef Samantha Gowing. Le Rembulan offers Malaysian specialities and grilled fish on a terrace facing the sea, on reservation: it is this restaurant that Club Med will turn into a farm-to-table venue. L'Enak features show cooking and a noodle bar, and the Malaysia Chiak truck serves street food. Drinks are at the Orchid, the Zen pool or Le Bayou, on the beach.

What rooms does Club Med Cherating Beach offer?

The 21 m² Superior room, sea side or garden side, sleeps up to three in a stilt house: you live outdoors on the terrace and come in mainly to sleep. The 55 m² Suite, also for three, offers the space of a small apartment. With the renovation, Club Med announces upgraded accommodations: your advisor will present the new categories as soon as they are published.

What is there to do around Cherating?

The boat cruise and kayaking in the mangrove reveal another side of the coast, and the evening firefly outing is a magical moment. A batik workshop introduces this Malaysian textile art. From November to February, the northeast monsoon brings showers and the waves that made Cherating a surfing spot: lessons are offered at extra cost. The spa, also at extra cost, rounds out the day.
