Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari at a glance

Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari is Club Med's first all-inclusive resort in South Africa, opened on July 4, 2026 in Tinley Manor, on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, north of Durban. Set on 32 hectares between the Indian Ocean and sugar cane hills, it has 411 rooms, including the suites of the Ilanga Exclusive Collection Space. Families come with children of any age, and couples love it too. Its highlights: Club Med's first surf school, two restaurants, six bars and a 2- or 3-night Big Five safari combination at Vikela Safari Lodge. Durban's King Shaka airport is 30 minutes away.

Is Club Med South Africa already open?

Yes. The resort welcomed its first guests on July 4, 2026, and you can book it now, on its own or with the safari. To understand the beach-and-bush concept, read our article Club Med South Africa: beach in the morning, safari in the afternoon. Here, we focus on the practical side: rooms, kids' clubs, meals, entry requirements and logistics from Quebec.

How do you get to the resort from Quebec?

Club Med South Africa is sold in Canada with flights from Montreal and Toronto, with a stopover. You land at Durban's King Shaka International Airport, then the transfer to the resort takes about 30 minutes, along the north coast. Expect a long travel day: that is why we recommend at least 7 nights at the resort, and 9 or 10 with the safari. Your advisor chooses the smoothest connections and books the transfer with the package.

What documents does a Canadian need?

Canadians enter South Africa without a visa for a tourist stay of 90 days or less. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after the date you leave the country and contain at least two blank visa pages. For children, bring their long-form birth certificate, and your advisor reviews the current requirements with you before departure. For health, book an appointment at a travel health clinic about six weeks before you leave, especially if you add the safari.

When should you go to Club Med South Africa?

The seasons are the opposite of ours, and the coast enjoys some 300 days of sunshine a year. From June to September, the southern winter is mild and dry: it is the ideal time for safari, and it falls during our summer holidays. From December to March, the South African summer is hot and more humid, a lovely escape over the holidays or spring break. The Indian Ocean stays pleasant all year. The time difference with Quebec is 6 hours during our summer and 7 hours in winter.

Which room should you choose at Club Med South Africa?

The Superior room, 30 to 40 m², sleeps 1 to 4 people: it is the natural choice for families. The 36 m² Deluxe is designed for 1 or 2 people, perfect for a couple. For an exceptional trip, the Ilanga Exclusive Collection Space brings together suites of 70 to 90 m², for 1 to 4 people, with a private pool and bar, above the estuary. The Ilanga lounge bar adds a hushed atmosphere. Your advisor tells you which category suits your group and your budget.

Is the resort suitable for families with young children?

Yes, it is one of its great strengths. The resort welcomes children of all ages, with a Welcome Baby service. Baby Club Med takes little ones up to age 2 and Petit Club Med ages 2 and 3, on reservation and with limited spots. Mini Club Med then welcomes ages 4 to 10, and teens from 11 to 17 have their own clubs. A pool is reserved for families, with its own bar. For an overview, see also our all-inclusive family travel.

Which activities are included in the package?

The star is Club Med's first surf school. Lessons are included, for children from age 8 as well as teens and adults, on a coast known for its waves. Flying trapeze, archery, tennis, padel, tag rugby, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, guided mountain biking in the sugar cane hills and yoga are also part of the package. The spa, by Sothys and Terres d'Afrique, and horseback rides on the beach are at extra cost.

What is the food like at Club Med South Africa?

Meals and drinks at the bar are included. Oceana, the main restaurant, spreads over five areas with a large terrace facing the ocean and a well-stocked wine cellar. Nguni, the Club Gourmet, celebrates the cuisine of southern Africa. For a drink, you have your pick: Injabulo, the Dunes beach bar, the Nguni bar, the Coffee Bar and the family pool bar. In the evening, the sound of the waves accompanies dinner.

How do you add the safari at Vikela Safari Lodge?

The combination is booked at extra cost, for 2 or 3 nights at Vikela Safari Lodge, in Zululand, about 4 hours 30 minutes by road from the resort. You head out by 4x4 with rangers in search of the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. The lodge welcomes children from age 4 and has areas for families and for adults. To go further, read our guide to safari in Africa from Quebec.

What is there to do around the resort?

The KwaZulu-Natal coast is full of excursions, all at extra cost. At sea, you go dolphin watching and, from June to November, humpback whale watching, or dive the Aliwal Shoal reef, famous for its sharks. On land, Hluhluwe park offers a day-long Big Five safari, and an e-bike safari is also available. You spot hippos in the estuaries and giraffes in nearby reserves, and discover Zulu culture or the energy of Durban, its markets and its curries.
