Club Med Tours Destinations

Club Med tours at a glance

Club Med is more than its resorts. Under the name Discovery Tours, it offers some fifty tours and short getaways on five continents, from the Greece of the gods to Japan's Tokaido road, from the plains of Tanzania to the glaciers of Patagonia. You travel in a small group, up to 16 participants on several tours, with departures guaranteed from the first booking. Full board is included, drinks too, as are domestic flights, the transfers in the program and guided visits led by French-speaking local guides. Hotels are chosen for their character, and some nights are spent aboard a Nile dahabiya, in a safari lodge or on a Caribbean catamaran. The three- to five-day getaways pair easily with a week at a Club Med resort.

What is a Club Med Discovery Tour?

It is a guided trip that keeps Club Med's all-inclusive spirit. Meals, the entrance fees in the program and transfers between stages are all arranged in advance, and a French-speaking local guide explains what you see. On some tours in Asia and South America, a G.O also accompanies the group from the first day to the last. Groups are small, which leaves time to ask questions, linger in front of a fresco or share a meal with a family who welcomes you. Departures are guaranteed from the first booking: no tour is cancelled for lack of participants.

What are the four tour themes?

Club Med sorts its tours into four families. Nature Escape gathers trips where the landscape leads the way, such as the Norwegian fjords, the Serengeti or Patagonia. Cultural Treasures brings together the great historic sites, from the temples of Egypt to the palaces of Rajasthan. Unforgettable Encounters focuses on people, their crafts and their tables. Confidential Routes opens rarer itineraries, such as the Nile aboard a dahabiya or South Korea off the beaten track. Each page also gives the length and pace, so you can choose the trip that suits you.

Where can you go on a Club Med tour?

The tours are grouped into three large regions, each with its own page. Our Club Med tours in Europe, Africa and the Middle East run from Ireland to South Africa, by way of Sicily, Jordan and Kenya. Our Club Med tours in the Americas and the Caribbean start in Canada and Mexico and reach Peru, Chile and Argentina, with a catamaran detour through the islands of Guadeloupe. Our Club Med tours in Asia and the Indian Ocean cross China, Japan, South Korea, India and Sri Lanka, then reach Thailand, Bali, the Seychelles and Reunion Island.

What is the difference between a tour and a getaway?

A tour lasts 7 to 13 days and links several regions, often several countries, with nights in different hotels. A getaway lasts 3 to 5 days and focuses on one city or region: Seville, Lisbon, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, Bali or Praslin, for example. It is often a private formula, with a driver and a guide, and it fits naturally before or after a stay at a Club Med resort in the same region, such as the Bali getaway with Club Med Bali or the Lisbon getaway with Club Med Da Balaia.

What is included in a Club Med tour?

Full board with drinks, domestic flights and the transfers in the program, the visits and entrance fees listed in the itinerary, a French-speaking local guide and 24-hour assistance. Optional excursions, such as the hot-air balloon in Cappadocia or the helicopter flight over Reunion Island, are booked separately, as are tips and personal expenses. The international flight from Montreal is added according to your dates: your advisor books it for you, with a hotel night before the tour starts if the schedule calls for it.

Who are Club Med tours designed for?

For curious travellers who want to see a lot without organizing anything themselves. Couples find charming hotels and fine meals, solo travellers find a welcoming small group, and families with teenagers enjoy the shorter tours or the getaways. Several tours call for good legs, for the trails of the Meteora, the steps of Machu Picchu or the tracks of Africa's parks: each page states the pace, and your advisor helps you choose according to your fitness.

How do you combine a tour with a Club Med resort stay?

It is one of the great strengths of the formula. After eight days of discovery, you treat yourself to a week of beach or mountains at a resort in the same region, without changing continents. The Moroccan Heritage tour ends at Club Med Marrakech La Palmeraie, the Southern Sicily getaway leads to Club Med Cefalù, and the Bangkok and River Kwai getaway often comes before a stay at Club Med Phuket. To see all the resorts, visit our Club Med Vacations page.

When should you book a Club Med tour?

Early, especially for each destination's peak seasons: spring and autumn in the Mediterranean, winter for India, Egypt and Southeast Asia, the dry season for safaris. Since groups are small, the best dates go quickly. Club Med publishes its departures season by season, and your advisor tells you which ones are available when you call and books your place with the right flight.
