Club Med Changbaishan is an all-inclusive mountain resort in Jilin province, in northeast China, in the heart of the Changbai Mountain biosphere reserve. In winter, you ski the Huamei ski area, with green and blue runs ideal for learning and progressing. In summer, the forest, the trails and Tianchi Lake, set in a volcanic crater, take over. Its great asset: it is Club Med's first resort in China built around forest hot springs, with a 3,000 m² thermal area. For winter 2026-2027, it opens on November 15 and closes on March 13. The package includes accommodation, meals, the bar, the lift pass and group ski lessons.

When is Club Med Changbaishan open?

The 2026-2027 winter season runs from November 15 to March 13. It covers the holidays and Quebec spring break, in early March. Winter in northeast China is cold, dry and sunny, with light snow that holds well on the runs. The resort then reopens for the summer season, when the mountain is covered in forest and wildflowers and the trails lead toward Tianchi Lake.

How do you get to Club Med Changbaishan from Quebec?

You fly from Montreal, with a connection, usually through Beijing or Shanghai, then continue to Changbaishan airport, just 40 minutes from the resort. Changbaishan West station, served by high-speed rail, is about 50 minutes away. Your advisor builds the full itinerary and can plan a stopover night so you arrive rested on the slopes.

Do you need a visa for China?

According to the Government of Canada, since February 17, 2026, Canadians have been able to enter China visa-free for stays of up to 30 days, for tourism, business, family visits or transit, a measure scheduled to run until December 31, 2026. The ski season continues into 2027: your advisor confirms the entry requirements in force at the time of booking.

What is the ski area like?

The resort gives access to the Changbai Mountain Huamei ski area, with eight runs: four green and four blue. It is a perfect playground for beginners, families and skiers who want to build confidence without pressure. The lift pass is included in the package, as are group ski and snowboard lessons, organized by age and level. You can also try cross-country skiing in the forest, which is included too.

Is the resort good for beginner skiers?

It is actually its specialty. Group lessons are included for adults and for children from age 4, and teens aged 11 to 17 have their own groups. The Ski Pro Shop rents and services equipment, at extra cost, and the ski room stores boots and skis in lockers. After a week, many beginners are coming down the blue runs with a smile.

What makes this resort unique?

The hot springs. The resort is Club Med's first in China built around forest hot springs: a 3,000 m² area has 29 indoor and outdoor pools, surrounded by volcanic rock and greenery. There are traditional Chinese herbal baths, a hydrotherapy pool, a sauna and a steam room. Slipping into the warm water after skiing, while snow falls on the pines, is the moment our travellers talk about when they get home. The Club Med Spa also offers treatments, at extra cost.

What is the food like at Club Med Changbaishan?

All three meals are included, along with a selection of drinks at the bar. The Heaven Lake Restaurant, the main restaurant, serves an international buffet. Baishan Kitchen showcases local cuisine, with Chinese hot pot and ginseng specialties, the emblematic plant of the Changbai mountains. The White Rivers Bar hosts aperitifs and evenings in the mountain setting.

Which room should you choose?

The resort offers two main categories, Deluxe and Suite, in several layouts. The Deluxe suits a couple, the Family Deluxe and Master Family Deluxe welcome families, and an adapted Deluxe room serves guests with reduced mobility. The suites offer more space to relax after skiing. The decor blends Manchu heritage with contemporary design. Your advisor picks the layout based on the size of your group.

Is the resort good for families?

Yes, it is designed for families with children aged 2 and up. Petit Club Med welcomes ages 2 and 3, and Mini Club Med+ looks after ages 4 to 10 with supervised activities, included in the package. Between ski lessons in the morning and hot springs in the afternoon, everyone finds their rhythm, and parents enjoy real adult ski time.

What is there to do at Club Med Changbaishan in summer?

In summer, the resort offers hiking, Nordic walking, cycling, mountainboarding, yoga and team sports, included in the package. The excursion to Tianchi Lake, a deep blue crater lake on the border between China and North Korea, is the must-do outing, at extra cost. The hot springs stay open, and the cool mountain evenings feel great after a day on the trails.

How do you fit Changbaishan into a bigger trip to Asia?

Changbaishan pairs very well with a few days in Beijing or Shanghai. Curious skiers sometimes continue to Club Med Yabuli, in northeast China, or to a Hokkaido resort such as Club Med Tomamu Hokkaido, to experience two ski cultures in the same winter. See also our China travel page.

Winter in northeast China is a lot like winter in Quebec: cold, dry and often sunny. Quebecers therefore feel right at home. Bring your usual ski clothing, a good base layer, a neck warmer and warm mittens. The resort's hot springs warm everyone up at the end of the day.
A bathing suit, quite simply. The outdoor pools are especially pleasant in winter, when the cold air contrasts with the hot water. A pair of sandals makes it easier to move between pools. The Chinese herbal baths are worth trying at least once during your stay.
The lift pass and group lessons are included, and equipment rental is available at extra cost at the resort's Ski Pro Shop. Your advisor can book it ahead so skis, boots and helmet are ready when you arrive. You can also bring your own equipment.
The Huamei ski area has green and blue runs, making it a perfect place to learn, progress and ski as a family. Expert skiers enjoy it as a relaxing week, between easy skiing, cross-country, hot springs and discovering China. For steep terrain, your advisor suggests other ski resorts.
Tianchi Lake, or Heaven Lake, fills the crater of an ancient volcano at the top of Changbai Mountain, on the border between China and North Korea. Its deep blue waters are surrounded by cliffs. The excursion is offered at extra cost and on reservation, and it is one of the most striking outings in the region.
Yes, it is a gentle introduction. The transfer from the airport takes only 40 minutes, everything is organized at the resort and the teams welcome travellers from around the world. You discover northeastern cuisine, ginseng and Manchu culture in a comfortable setting, then extend your trip in Beijing or Shanghai.
The resort offers Wi-Fi, but several apps commonly used in Canada are restricted in China. Before leaving, get an international SIM card or eSIM and download your maps and travel documents. Your advisor gives you a list of useful preparations before departure.
Yes, an introduction to cross-country skiing in the forest is among the included activities. It is a lovely way to discover the calm of the snowy pines of the Changbai Mountain reserve, alternating with downhill skiing. Quebec Nordic fans find a familiar pleasure in a completely new setting.
Yes, the Club Med Spa offers massages and treatments at extra cost, in individual rooms and a room for two. Access to the hot springs, sauna and steam room is part of the stay. Book your treatments early in the week to get the late-afternoon slots, the most popular after skiing.
