How do the first four days unfold, from Amman to Petra?

On the first day, you settle in at the Amman Rotana 5*, in the capital. On the second day, 160 km of road lead to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Near East, with its colonnades and theatre, then to Ajloun Castle, built in the 12th century on a wooded hill. On the third day, you climb Mount Nebo, which overlooks the Jordan Valley, admire the mosaic map of Madaba, then the Crusader castle of Shobak, before reaching Petra, 310 km from Amman. In the evening, the Petra by Night option lets you walk the Siq by candlelight. The fourth day is devoted entirely to Petra.

And what happens in Wadi Rum and at the Dead Sea?

On the fifth day, you drive 105 km to Wadi Rum, and the 4x4s set off among canyons, stone arches and red dunes, where Lawrence of Arabia left his legend. The night is spent at Hayat Rum Camp, under a sky full of stars. On the sixth day, 305 km lead to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on the planet, for a swim where you float effortlessly. On the seventh day, a 60-minute massage at the Kempinski comes before the return to Amman, 50 km away, and a visit to a local market. The eighth day is departure day.

How much time do you spend in Petra?

A full day, from morning to late afternoon, and that changes everything. You enter through the Siq, a narrow gorge more than a kilometre long, and the Treasury appears suddenly at the end of the passage. Then you continue to the Royal Tombs, the theatre and the colonnaded street, and the bravest climb the steps to the Monastery. Staying at the Mövenpick Resort Petra, at the entrance to the site, lets you start early, before the heat and the day groups.
