Club Med Da Balaia at a glance

Club Med Da Balaia is a Premium all-inclusive resort with 389 rooms in the Algarve, on Portugal's south coast, 7 km from Albufeira and 40 minutes from Faro airport. Set on 15 hectares, between two red cliffs jutting out into the Atlantic, it overlooks the golden beach of Maria Luísa. Its strengths: golf lessons and free access to the Balaia Golf Club included, a natural pool filtered by plants, the flying trapeze and clubs for children from 4 months. The 2027 season runs from March 27 to November 6, with a short break from May 12 to 16. The package includes accommodation, meals, the bar, sports and the clubs for ages 4 to 17.

When is Club Med Da Balaia open?

The 2026 season continues until October 31. In 2027, the resort opens on March 27, just in time for Easter, which falls on March 28, and stays open until November 6, with a short break from May 12 to 16. The season is a long one: spring in the Algarve is mild and in bloom, summer is ideal for the beach and families, and fall stays bright through Thanksgiving.

How do you get to Club Med Da Balaia from Quebec?

You fly from Montreal or Quebec City to Faro or Lisbon, with or without a connection depending on the season. Faro airport is 33 km away, about 40 minutes by road. From Lisbon, the transfer covers 257 km, about 2 hours 45 minutes, a great chance to spend a few days in the capital before heading south. Your advisor books the flights and the transfer with the package.

What is the resort like?

The resort stretches along the clifftops, with the Atlantic on one side and the pines on the other. To the west are the rooms, the tennis courts and the main pool. To the east, the zen pool is tucked among the pines, with a view of the flying trapeze and the beach. The natural pool, filtered by plants and minerals, is one of the lovely surprises of the place. Guests are welcomed with music, to the sound of fado, and the resort holds Green Globe certification.

What is Maria Luísa beach like?

Maria Luísa beach stretches out at the foot of the cliffs, a long strip of golden sand edged with ochre rock. From the terraces and the zen pool, you see it below, and sunset over the cliffs is one of the highlights of the day. In the late afternoon, the light turns the rock almost red. If beach access matters to you, talk to your advisor, who will tell you about the route and the best-placed room.

Can you play golf at Club Med Da Balaia?

Yes, and it is one of the resort's great strengths. Group golf lessons and free access to the Balaia Golf Club are included in the package. Golfers who want to play the Algarve's famous courses, such as Quinta do Lago, book tee times at extra cost, as well as golf clinics. A mini-golf course keeps the youngest busy. For more ideas, see our all-inclusive golf trips.

Which activities are included in the package?

The flying trapeze is the star attraction, facing the sea. You can also try archery, play tennis and mini-football, join a Vibhava Yoga session facing the ocean, a Les Mills class or a Float Fit session on the water. Card players gather in the bridge room. Intensive tennis clinics and the Club Med Spa by Cinq Mondes cost extra.

Is the resort good for families?

Yes, from the very youngest age. Baby Club Med welcomes babies from 4 to 23 months and Petit Club Med children aged 2 and 3, at extra cost and on reservation. Mini Club Med+ takes over from 4 to 10, followed by the Teens club from 11 to 17, included in the package. Children have their own pool, and the flying trapeze is the pride of the older ones. Easter and summer are the periods most in demand with families: book early for spots for the little ones.

Which room should you choose at Club Med Da Balaia?

The Superior Lisboa room, 20 to 30 m², sleeps one to three. Families of four look at the Superior Family or Junior Family Lisboa room, 31 to 45 m². Connecting rooms offer 40 to 60 m² for two to five people. To see the Atlantic when you wake up, the Superior sea view room in the Coimbra and Belém buildings is 24 m². The resort also offers Deluxe rooms, suites and a Superior room adapted for guests with reduced mobility, in the Belém building.

What is the food like at Club Med Da Balaia?

Meals are included. The main restaurant, Le Balaia, serves varied buffets, and the Vasco Gourmet Lounge showcases Portuguese cooking, right down to warm pastéis de nata. The main bar, Le Falesia, and the calm pool bar keep the day going, and in the evening, guests meet at the O'Teatro Bar. The bar and snacks are included, and the Vasco wine cellar introduces you to the wines of the country.

Albufeira is 7 km away, Faro 35 km, Portimão 42 km and Lagos 52 km. By boat, you head out to see the sea caves of Benagil and the dolphins offshore. Other excursions go to Olhão and its islands, the seahorses of the Ria Formosa, Loulé and its azulejos, the salt route, a wine estate or a fado evening. Lisbon, 257 km away, can be visited on an excursion. To plan the rest of your trip, see our Portugal travel page.

Da Balaia or Magna Marbella: which one to choose?

Both resorts combine golf, spa and Iberian sunshine. Da Balaia offers the Algarve cliffs, a sandy beach below the resort and a season that starts in late March.
