How do the four days in Rio unfold?

On day 1, you are met at the airport and driven to the hotel: the rest of the day is for settling in and taking your first steps along the waterfront. On day 2, the morning is devoted to Corcovado and the afternoon is free. On day 3, you ride up the Sugarloaf before discovering the colonial centre, and the afternoon is yours again. On day 4, the morning is free, then the driver-guide drops you at the airport or takes you straight to Club Med Rio das Pedras.

What do you see at Corcovado and Sugarloaf?

At Corcovado, the cog railway climbs through the Tijuca forest, a rainforest in the middle of the city, to the foot of Christ the Redeemer. From up there, you take in the whole city at a glance, from the beaches to the hills. The next day, the Sugarloaf cable car lifts you 396 m above Guanabara Bay: the view takes in Copacabana, the mouth of the bay and the statue you visited the day before. The colonial centre, with its churches and squares, completes the morning.

Which hotel should you choose, Comfort or Superior Comfort?

The getaway comes in two categories. In Comfort, you stay at the Porto Bay Rio Internacional, a 4-star hotel in Copacabana. In Superior Comfort, it is the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana, a 5-star hotel on the same beach. Both addresses put you within walking distance of the sand, which makes all the difference for enjoying the free afternoons. What is included, and what do you pay for separately?

The package includes transfers, three nights with breakfast, the visits on the programme, the private French-speaking driver-guide, porters and local taxes. What can you do during the free afternoons?

Several options can be booked with the getaway: dinner in the bohemian Santa Teresa neighbourhood, with its steep streets and colourful houses, a visit to the Cidade do Samba, where carnival floats are built, or a 4x4 outing in the rainforest. Otherwise, the beach is steps from the hotel, and the Copacabana promenade makes a lovely walk at the end of the day.

Who guides you during the getaway?

The getaway is private: a French-speaking driver-guide looks after you alone, or your couple or family, with no other travellers. They meet you at the airport, drive you to the visits and adapt the pace to yours. Your advisor tells you which departures are offered, and Club Med assistance is available 24 hours a day.

When should you go to Rio de Janeiro?

Rio can be visited all year. From December to March, it is the southern summer, hot and humid, with the city buzzing ahead of carnival. From April to November, temperatures are milder and the sky is often clearer, which favours the views from Corcovado and Sugarloaf. How do you get to Rio from Quebec, and what documents do you need?

Rio de Janeiro is reached by flights from Montreal, with a stopover. The transfer from the airport to the hotel is included. Canadian travellers leave with their passport; your advisor checks the entry requirements for Brazil, including the visa, at the time of booking.
