How do the four days of the getaway unfold?

On day one, a private transfer takes you from the airport to your hotel in Saint-Gilles, and the afternoon is free for the beach. On day two, your guide picks you up for the day in Cilaos. Day three is entirely yours. On day four, the morning stays free before the transfer to the airport. It is a short format, with one big guided outing and plenty of time to enjoy the west coast at your own pace.

What do you see during the day in Cilaos?

The road up to the Cilaos cirque is an adventure in itself, with tight bends above the ravines. You stop at the Roche Merveilleuse for photos, a lookout that takes in the whole cirque, then discover the Îlet à Cordes, a farming hamlet nestled in the mountains. At midday, you share a Creole lunch, before a rum-making workshop. The day ends with a walk through the village of Cilaos, with your private French-speaking guide.

Which hotel do you stay in, in Saint-Gilles?

What can you do on the free days?

Two activities are offered as options. The first is a transparent kayak outing on the Saint-Gilles lagoon, which lets you see fish and coral beneath the hull. The second is an exploration of the lava tunnels, in the south of the island, to walk where the volcano once flowed. In between, the lagoon, the market and the restaurants of Saint-Gilles are enough to fill a lovely day. Your advisor can book these activities ahead.

When is the best time to visit Réunion?

The island can be visited all year. From May to November, during the southern winter, the air is drier and cooler at altitude, ideal for the climb to Cilaos. From December to April, it is hotter and more humid, and the vegetation of the cirques is a deep green. Your advisor tells you which departures are offered on your dates.

How do you get to Réunion from Quebec?

You leave from Montreal with a connection to Réunion airport. Flights are added to the package, and your advisor books them together with the getaway and, if you wish, the rest of the trip to Mauritius. Réunion is a French overseas department: you pay in euros and people speak French and Creole. Your Canadian passport must be valid for the whole stay, and your advisor checks the requirements at the time of booking.
