Why ski in China at Club Med Yabuli?

Because it is a ski trip like no other. Yabuli is the historic ski area of northeastern China: it hosted the alpine skiing events of the 2025 Asian Winter Games, organized by Harbin. You ski through birch and pine forest, often under a blue sky, in a dry cold that keeps the snow light all winter. For a Quebecer who knows winter well, the surprise lies elsewhere: Heilongjiang cooking, G.O from all over Asia and a culture you discover while carving down the slopes.

When is Club Med Yabuli open?

The resort opens for the winter season in late November or early December and stays open through the snowiest months. January and February are the heart of the season, with the crispest cold and the most reliable snow. Chinese New Year, which falls on February 6 in 2027, draws many families from the region: it is a very festive week. Your advisor confirms the exact 2026-2027 season dates and helps you pick the week that fits your trip.

How do you get to Club Med Yabuli from Quebec?

You fly from Montreal with a connection to Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang. From Harbin airport, allow about 3 hours 30 minutes by road to the resort; Club Med runs a shuttle from Harbin airport and from Yabuli West station. The high-speed train is a great option: Yabuli West station is 30 minutes from the resort and Yabuli South station 10 minutes away. Mudanjiang airport, closer, is 2 hours by road. Your advisor builds the complete itinerary, flights and transfers included.

Do Canadians need a visa for China?

According to the Government of Canada, Canadian passport holders are included in China's visa-free entry scheme from February 17 to December 31, 2026, for tourist stays of up to 30 days. Your passport must be valid for at least six months on entry into China. For a stay in 2027, the rule in force will be the one announced by then: your advisor checks the current requirements before you leave and tells you what steps to take.

What is the Yabuli ski area like?

The resort sits at the foot of the Sun Mountain ski area, described by Club Med as one of the largest in China. There are 17 runs: 2 green runs for beginners, 10 intermediate runs to build confidence and 5 black runs for expert skiers. The resort is at 500 metres above sea level, and the long descents through the forest are on cold, powdery snow. The days are bright, which helps you read the terrain even in deep cold.

Are ski lessons and the lift pass included?

Yes. Group alpine ski lessons, on five levels, and snowboard lessons, on three levels, are included in the package, with professional instructors. The lift pass is valid from the second day of your stay until departure day: the first day is for settling in and recovering from the trip. Ski, boot and helmet rental costs extra, and it can be booked ahead so everything is ready when you arrive.

Is Club Med Yabuli good for families?

Very much so, from age 2. Petit Club Med welcomes children aged 2 and 3, Mini Club Med+ takes over from 4 to 10, then the teen club welcomes ages 11 to 13 and 14 to 17. Children spend their days with G.O who take them on the slopes and organize games in the snow. For toddlers aged 2 and 3, your advisor confirms the conditions and books spots together with your stay.

What is there to do at the resort after skiing?

This is where Yabuli stands out. The resort has an indoor pool, an outdoor Canadian bath where you slip into hot water while the snow falls, and a hot spring. A climbing wall keeps kids and adults busy at the end of the day, and the cardio room is open to all. The Club Med Spa by L'Occitane offers treatments at extra cost, by reservation. In the evening, the G.O entertainment brings together travellers of every nationality.

What is the food like at Club Med Yabuli?

Meals and drinks are included. The main restaurant, Apple Garden, serves a varied buffet from morning to evening, with Asian and Western dishes. The Mudan Specialty Restaurant showcases the flavours of northeastern China: mung bean noodles, crispy sweet and sour pork and other Heilongjiang specialities. You end the evening at the Forest Bar with a hot chocolate or a drink. For a curious Quebecer, it is an easy way to taste a regional cuisine little known back home.

Which room should you choose at Club Med Yabuli?

The resort offers two main categories. Deluxe rooms, with a modern decor of light wood and natural tones, suit couples and families alike. Suites offer more space, ideal for a two-week stay or for a family that wants room to spread out. Several options exist in each category: your advisor chooses the one that fits the number of travellers and the children's ages.

How do you combine Yabuli with a trip to China?

Harbin alone is worth two or three days. In January, the international ice and snow festival turns the city into a town of illuminated sculptures, and Central Street and Saint Sophia Cathedral recall the city's Russian influence. Many travellers then combine Yabuli with the other ski resort in the northeast, Club Med Changbaishan, or with Beijing. To plan the rest of your stay, see our China travel page.

Frequently Asked Questions

The resort welcomes children from age 2, with Petit Club Med for ages 2 and 3. It is designed for families whose children are already walking and can enjoy the snow. For younger babies, your advisor suggests ski resorts equipped with a Baby Club Med.
Heilongjiang has a very cold, dry continental winter, often colder than Quebec City in January, with lots of sunshine. Pack thermal underwear, a neck warmer, warm mittens and a face cream. In return, the snow stays light and powdery all season, and the resort's Canadian bath really comes into its own.
Yes, and it is one of the best reasons to travel in January. The Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival features giant palaces and sculptures lit up at night. Your advisor can add two or three nights in Harbin before or after your stay at the resort, since every flight arrives through that city anyway.
Yes, the package includes drinks at the bar and with meals, with and without alcohol, as well as snacks. The Forest Bar is the end-of-day meeting place. Some premium bottles and drinks on the menu cost extra, as in most Club Med resorts.
The resort offers Wi-Fi, but several common Western services, such as some messaging apps and search platforms, are blocked in China. Before leaving, install the apps you will need and check your provider's roaming plans. Your advisor gives you a preparation checklist tailored to the trip.
For a couple who loves skiing and discovery, it is an original honeymoon. You ski by day, meet up in the Canadian bath under the snow, then at the spa by L'Occitane at extra cost. A Suite adds a little more privacy, and a stop in Harbin or Beijing rounds out the trip with a cultural touch.
With connecting flights and the transfer from Harbin, a stay of at least one week at the resort is recommended. Many travellers choose ten to fifteen days in total to add Harbin, Beijing or a second ski resort such as Changbaishan. Your advisor suggests a pace that leaves time to recover from jet lag.
It is optional: ski, snowboard, boot and helmet rental is available on site, at extra cost, and can be booked ahead. Many Quebecers bring only their boots and helmet, which travel well and give better comfort. Your ski clothing from home is perfectly suited to the climate.
Yes, it is actually an excellent place to start. Group lessons are included, with five levels in skiing and three in snowboarding, and the ski area has 2 green runs for your first turns. The lift pass starts on the second day, which leaves time to rent equipment and meet the instructors on arrival.
The resort has been Green Globe certified since 2021 and applies Club Med's Bye Bye Plastic program, which cuts single-use plastic. The resort also puts its indoor pool and hot spring at the heart of its relaxation offer. For travellers who care about these commitments, it is a concrete benchmark when choosing a resort.
