Four starting points, four different voyages

AmaCerto does not work one river but a network. Our figures on 26 August 2026 show routes leaving from Basel, Amsterdam, Nuremberg and Luxembourg, for 85 departure dates in all.

That means something concrete: two travellers booking "a cruise on AmaCerto" three weeks apart may not see the same countries. The Rhine from Basel runs up toward the German vineyards and the Netherlands. Departing Nuremberg commits you to the Main-Danube canal and pushes east. Choosing your date here amounts to choosing your geography.

The Basel to Amsterdam run

This is its most frequent route: twenty-five of our dates carry it. It comes down the upper Rhine, passes Strasbourg, the middle Rhine valley and its castles, Cologne, then the Netherlands. Some sixty locks depending on the variant, most of them passed at night.

It is the densest river route in Europe for towns and castles. It is also the busiest, which shows at the quays of the middle Rhine valley in June.

The hull

A hundred and thirty-five metres, 161 guests, 85 cabins, delivered in 2012. The upper cabins have the line's twin balcony: a sliding glass wall and a real outdoor balcony in the same cabin.

One clarification: the published technical sheets do not all agree on this hull's beam or on the yard that built it. Ships of the same series are given elsewhere at twelve metres. We prefer to flag that rather than arbitrate between two sources on a page meant for a client.

The other ships in the fleet

AmaPrima, AmaVenita and AmaSerena share its configuration and its network. AmaSonata works mainly the Danube.

The fare, line by line

It covers life aboard: the cabin, all meals, wine and beer at lunch and dinner, soft drinks at any hour, a daily cocktail, and a guided excursion at every port. Wi-Fi is included. The European ships carry bicycles, available during port calls.

Excursions are chosen by effort level: gentle, regular or active. The active level means walking a long way, often uphill and on cobbles. The gentle level exists for a reason, and nobody will judge you for taking it.

Two items stay on your account: gratuities, included on no destination, and air travel, unless bought through the line's air programme. Putting both in the budget at the outset avoids the unpleasant surprise of the last day.

What life aboard assumes

An adult clientele, days shaped by the port calls, short evenings. No children's club, no childcare, no youth activities. Minors share a cabin with a responsible adult, and the minimum age depends on the destination.

The lift links the main decks without reaching the sun deck. Boarding is by a gangway whose slope changes from quay to quay, and sometimes by crossing another ship. These are details as long as you walk well, and real obstacles otherwise.

What a Quebec agency protects

A licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur, a trust account for the sums received, and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents. Three verifiable things, and the licence number appears on your contract. A booking made outside Quebec gives no right to them.

To that add what the law does not provide: someone who answers when a connection collapses on a Sunday night and the ship leaves the next morning.
