History

  • 2017: Année de construction

The last hull of the first wave

The Emerald Destiny left the Den Breejen yard, in the Netherlands, in 2017. She closes the first series of five one hundred and thirty-five metre hulls launched in 2014. Four decks of which three carry cabins, 91 cabins, 180 travellers, Maltese flag.

She covers the Rhine, the Main and the Danube, between Basel, Amsterdam and Budapest. Our inventory counts one hundred and seventy-nine departures, thirty in 2026 and one hundred and forty-nine in 2027: the calendar most turned towards next year across the whole older series.

What the measurement showed

The heated indoor pool turns into a cinema in the evening, with a retractable glass roof and a telescopic floor. The lift serves the three cabin decks and stops there: the sun deck, with its walking track and putting green, is reached by stairs. That is a clearance constraint, not a design choice: a lift shaft rising above the upper deck would stop the ship passing under the bridges.

No refit has been published since she left the yard. Nine years, and nothing announced. The question goes to the supplier rather than being invented.

The other ships in the fleet

The Emerald Luna joined the series in 2022. The Emerald Astra is the 2026 newbuild. The Emerald Star and the Emerald Dawn opened the series in 2014 and 2015.

Owner of its hulls

The brand is headquartered in Switzerland, the group that holds it is Australian, and the entity signing the travel contract is established in Australia. What matters here: the group owns the ships it sells, and since 2020 it owns a shipyard as well.

The eleven river ships come from Dutch yards, one from Portugal, another from Romania. The four ocean yachts come from a Vietnamese yard the group presents as its own.

What the fare covers

Gratuities first, to the crew as much as to guides and drivers: no daily service charge is posted to the onboard account. Standard drinks at the two main meals. At least one excursion per touring day. Internet, provided with no promise of performance.

The international flight is not included in the offer sold here. It is included in the same brand's British catalogue: two products, two contents, one name. Your advisor ties the air portion to the rest of the file.

Accessibility, unrounded

An able companion is required as soon as the traveller needs help. Only folding wheelchairs are accepted. Mobility scooters are judged unsuitable. The line itself writes that cabin and bathroom doors may not admit a standard wheelchair.

No inventory of adapted cabins exists publicly for the river fleet. On the yachts, two independent sources establish that there is neither an adapted cabin nor an adapted bathroom. And mooring abreast regularly means crossing a neighbouring ship by stairs.

Why go through an agency here

Because the contract binds you to a company on the other side of the world, and nothing establishes that it holds a Quebec licence. Voyages AquaTerra holds one, with the trust account and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents that go with it. And someone who answers when a connection collapses the night before departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

One hundred and thirty-five metres across four decks, three of which carry cabins, for 91 cabins and 180 travellers. It is the standard size of the series, drawn for the Rhine and Danube locks.
2017, from the Den Breejen yard in the Netherlands. She closes the first series of five hulls launched in 2014. No refit has been published since: nine years with nothing announced.
To control the finish. The group explains that a contract yard would rather reproduce its models than build to order. It has owned its builder since 2020 and calls its own the yard its yachts come from.
Yes, on this ship. A retractable glass roof above the heated indoor pool, and a telescopic floor that rises in the evening to form the floor of the room. Seven hulls in the fleet have it; one does not.
No. It is the only deck the lift does not serve, and it is precisely the one carrying the loungers, the walking track and the putting green. You take the stairs.
For clearance. A lift shaft rising above the upper deck would stop the ship passing under the bridges of the European rivers. The whole river fleet is in the same position.
Those on the upper and middle decks, whose window lowers at the push of a button across half its height. Lower deck cabins have a fixed panoramic window that does not open at all.
Yes, as soon as the traveller needs help. The line writes it plainly: it welcomes on condition that the traveller is self-sufficient or accompanied by someone able to provide all required assistance.
No. It publishes a policy, requiring a companion and refusing scooters, but no count of adapted cabins for its river ships. The two are different things and the absence of the second deserves saying.
The onboard crew, the local guides and the drivers. Their gratuities are included and are added nowhere. Port taxes are covered as well on the yachts.
At meals, beer, wine and soft drinks. Outside meals, specialty coffees, teas and filtered water remain available; spirits are charged. The dividing line is the meal, not the hour.
The international flight and its taxes, premium excursions, premium drink brands and personal expenses. Everything else, gratuities and standard drinks at meals included, is in the fare.
The Rhine, the Main and the Danube, under the Maltese flag. The itineraries link Basel, Amsterdam and Budapest, including the canal joining the Main to the Danube.
One hundred and seventy-nine departure dates in our inventory, thirty in 2026 and one hundred and forty-nine in 2027. It is the calendar most turned towards next year across the older series.
It steps in for the situations set out in the Travel Agents Act, notably a supplier's failure. The cover has precise limits and does not replace travel insurance.
