Viking Idun: ship in service, no dates in our catalogue
Viking Idun appears on the fleet Viking publishes. As at 25 August 2026, our own catalogue nonetheless showed no departures on this hull. The page stays online because the situation deserves an explanation rather than an error page.
Three ships, one silence
The case is not isolated with us. Viking Freya and Viking Odin show exactly the same profile: present on the line's roster, absent from our calendar.
When three hulls of the same generation behave the same way, coincidence holds up poorly as an explanation. It is likely either a decision by the line about this series, or a gap in the data feed supplying our catalogue. The question has been put to our supplier.
What is certain is that this is not a withdrawal: we separately hold 13 pages for Viking ships genuinely out of the fleet, and they are recognisable by one simple sign — the line no longer lists them. That is not the case here.
What happens next
An advisor can query Viking directly to find out whether dates exist on this ship. From a Quebec address the public site does not allow you to check for yourself.
And if what you want is simply a Longship river cruise, all these ships are identical: Viking Vilhjalm offers 189 departures on the Danube, the fullest calendar on that river.
A 135-metre hull, like the other forty-nine
The ship holds 95 staterooms for 190 guests and 53 crew. The split is fixed from one Longship to the next: 25 Standard, 22 French Balcony, 39 Veranda, 7 Veranda Suites and 2 Explorer Suites.
The ratio of 3.58 guests per crew member belongs to this class. On Viking's Nile ships it falls to 1.71, and two of them carry more crew than travellers.
Iðunn, and the apples that keep the gods standing
Iðunn guards the apples that keep the Æsir from ageing. Loki, under duress, hands her to the giant Þjazi. The gods immediately begin to grey and wrinkle, and she has to be recovered in haste.
It is one of the few myths that states the point plainly: the Norse gods are not immortal by nature, they are immortal by maintenance.
Booking from Quebec
From a Quebec address, Viking's reservations site does not answer: it redirects to a page inviting travellers to contact an agent. On this line the agency is not a convenience, it is the route. You can check that yourself in thirty seconds.
Our Viking River Cruises advisors confirm in writing the exact fare, what is included, what is not, and the applicable conditions before any booking, in line with Quebec consumer protection rules and participation in the compensation fund for travel agency customers.
