Regal Princess measures 142,714 GT, 330 m long and 38.4 m wide, across 19 numbered decks with 15 open to guests. She carries 3,560 guests at double occupancy in 1,780 cabins, 81% of them with a balcony, served by 1,346 crew. She is the exact twin of Royal Princess: same dimensions to the centimetre, same registry tonnage, one year apart in delivery. Princess lists 142,229 GT on its own spec sheet, slightly below the registry figure.
Because that number counts upper berths and sofa beds, while the usual 3,560 is double occupancy. The extra 700 or so turn up during school holidays, mostly on the 7-day round trips out of Fort Lauderdale that attract families. There is a second confusion specific to this ship, and it is her birthday. The keel went down in August 2012 and the hull floated out in March 2013, but delivery only came on 11 May 2014 and the naming on 5 November 2014, so 2014 is the year that counts.
She is the second of the class and the most faithful to the original plan, with the glass SeaWalk on deck 17 starboard and the SeaView Bar on deck 16 port, a terrace cantilevered 8.5 m out beyond the hull. She was christened by the original cast of "The Love Boat," a detail every Princess regular knows. She came out of a full drydock at Damen in Rotterdam in April 2025, hull repainted and technical work done, which makes her the better maintained of the two earliest hulls. Like Royal Princess, she has no Sky Suites and no The Catch by Rudi.
The Caribbean, from Fort Lauderdale, all year, with no European season at all. She alternates 7-day western Caribbean loops, 8-day eastern and southern runs, a few 9-day sailings and longer 15-day itineraries, through to a 26 December 2026 departure. Hers is the simplest pattern in the class: one home port, one flight to buy, no crossing to plan around. No drydock is scheduled for her in 2026 or 2027.
Her 2027 is the most interesting of the five for a Québec traveller. She stays in Fort Lauderdale until 10 April, crosses to Southampton on 17 April in 14 days, spends the summer in Northern Europe and the Baltic out of Southampton and Copenhagen, then recrosses to New York in August. From 21 August to 23 October 2027 she runs eleven consecutive 8-day round trips from New York, the classic Canada and New England window at peak foliage. New York is under a 90-minute flight from Montréal, or six hours by road, with no time change; Southampton means a flight to London plus roughly 90 minutes of road or rail from Heathrow. She closes the year in Miami through November and December.
For the Caribbean, a midship balcony on deck 10 Caribe or deck 11 Baja, categories BA or BB, or a Deluxe Balcony D4 if you want the two armchairs. If you want a step up, the Reserve Collection Mini-Suite is the real value in this class: a mini-suite cabin plus a reserved dining room section with its own menu and service, without paying suite money. Deck 8 Emerald has balconies partly blocked by hull structure, worth considering if the view matters less to you than the cabin. Avoid staterooms directly beneath deck 16, where dragged loungers carry at dawn.
Three main dining rooms, Symphony, Concerto and Allegro, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet on deck 16, the 24-hour International Café in the Piazza and the included Alfredo's pizzeria, with Prego beside the pool. Extra-charge: Crown Grill for steak, Sabatini's for Italian, Ocean Terrace for seafood, plus Crab Shack and Chef's Table Lumiere. Bars are Crooners and Vines in the Piazza, Bellini's, the Wheelhouse Bar on deck 7, Good Spirits at Sea, and the cantilevered SeaView Bar on deck 16. The attractions worth your time are the SeaWalk, the adults-only Sanctuary, The Enclave at Lotus Spa, the Princess Live studio, the Princess Theater and Movies Under the Stars.
The same three things as across the class, and they belong in the conversation before you book. Deck 7 is named Promenade but is essentially indoors, with no complete outdoor lap of the ship, and the walking track sits all the way up on deck 18. Balconies are narrower than on the Grand class, and the aft staterooms are stepped, so the deck above looks down onto yours. On a 7-day Caribbean loop in February the pool deck is full by 9 a.m. and towels claim the loungers long before the bars open; The Sanctuary solves that, and it carries a fee. Finally, the crowd skews distinctly older than the market average, and a couple in their thirties will be among the youngest aboard.
Included: your cabin, the Symphony, Concerto and Allegro dining rooms, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet, the International Café, Alfredo's, the Trident Grill, Swirls ice cream, Princess Theater shows, Movies Under the Stars, pools and gym. Extra: alcohol and specialty coffees, Wi-Fi, crew appreciation, shore excursions, valet laundry, The Sanctuary, The Enclave, and Crown Grill, Sabatini's and Ocean Terrace. Princess offers two bundles, Princess Plus and Princess Premier, covering part of that list. The base fare does not include them. Princess posts a daily Crew Appreciation charge to your onboard account, scaled to stateroom category, and adds a service percentage to every bar order. It is prepaid if you book Princess Plus or Princess Premier. On Regal Princess's 7- and 8-day Caribbean loops that is a full week of the charge per person, and it is often this line, rather than the drinks, that tips the decision toward a bundle.
Princess sells two bundles rather than a standalone drink package. Princess Plus covers fifteen drinks a day under a per-drink ceiling, unlimited specialty coffees and teas, bottled water, one connected device, a few casual meals and prepaid crew appreciation. Princess Premier removes the daily count, raises the ceiling, gives four devices, unlimited specialty dining, digital photos and a reserved theatre section. On board, the question settles quickly: Crooners and Vines in the Piazza, the Wheelhouse Bar and the cantilevered SeaView Bar are the four places you will actually order from. The Medallion replaces the cabin card with a quarter-sized disc you wear. Your door unlocks as you approach, purchases go through with photo verification, embarkation at Fort Lauderdale moves noticeably faster, and OceanNow brings a drink to wherever you are, including the SeaView Bar or a deck 16 lounger. MedallionNet handles video calls and streaming, and it stays an extra charge if you have no bundle. The irritants: the app has to be installed and the pre-cruise steps completed before you travel, the disc tracks your position on board because that is what makes delivery possible, having it mailed to your home in advance is chargeable while collecting it at the terminal is not, and guest-to-guest location sharing can be switched off if it unsettles you.
On a 7-day Caribbean loop over March break, yes, provided you know what you are buying. The youth rooms sit on deck 17, split by age from 3 to 7, from 8 to 12, and the Remix Lounge & Disco for 13 to 17 with its own outdoor hot tub. The ship has no water slide, no ropes course and no skating rink: children's fun here comes from the pools, the giant screen and the ports. On the 15-day sailings and on the April 2027 crossing, there will be very few young people aboard.
It builds fast on this particular ship, because Regal runs short cruises back to back. Gold comes with your first cruise, Ruby at three cruises or thirty cruise days, Platinum at five cruises or fifty days, Elite at fifteen cruises or a hundred and fifty. Since the count takes whichever measure serves you better, five 7-day Fort Lauderdale loops put you at Platinum long before you accumulate fifty days at sea. Booking a suite or sailing solo earns double credit. Platinum is where complimentary self-service laundry and priority embarkation arrive.
In the Caribbean, rarely. The water is warm and generally calm from December through April, and a 330 m hull with stabilizers barely moves in it. Hurricane season, June to November, brings more swell and occasional mid-voyage itinerary changes, which is written into the contract and is the real risk of those months. The 17 April 2027 crossing to Southampton and the August return to New York are a different matter, with several days of open ocean. Book midship on deck 9 or 10 and start the tablets before boarding if you are sensitive.
