Forty-two dates, and they are the last

The Costa Fortuna entered service in November 2003. 272 metres, 1358 cabins, 2702 travellers at double occupancy. She has been sold, and she leaves the Costa fleet in mid-September 2026. The forty-two departure dates sitting with us are her very last under this name and this flag.

What follows is already scheduled. A full refit is planned for late 2026, then the ship returns to sea from Miami on 9 January 2027, as the Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber, for an American company whose fleet consists entirely of former Costa ships.

What to know if you are aiming at those last dates

She finishes with the eastern Mediterranean out of Istanbul, after a 2025-2026 winter in the Canaries. There will be no following season. Any proposal beyond mid-September 2026 on this ship must be checked before it is confirmed.

Aboard, an Art Deco decoration and an atrium displaying models of twenty-six ships from the line's historic fleet. Twenty-seven wheelchair-accessible cabins are listed by third-party databases, an indicative figure. As on the neighbouring class, fewer than forty per cent of the cabins have a balcony.

The ships that remain

The Costa Deliziosa has the best ratio of cabins with a balcony. The Costa Toscana runs on liquefied natural gas. The Costa Pacifica and the Costa Fascinosa cover the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

What to know about the line

Costa lost half its fleet between 2019 and 2026: from sixteen hulls to eight. Seven were sold or transferred, one was scrapped. Nine of our seventeen pages therefore describe a ship that has changed name, flag and company, or that no longer exists at all.

The house is a hundred and seventy years old. Genoese, founded in olive oil in 1854, a shipowner since 1924, a carrier of passengers since 1947. It has belonged to an American group since 2000 and counts among its nine cruise brands. Three of its ships have been transferred in recent years to the group's North American brand.

On the Costa Concordia wreck, the facts without the novel. On 13 January 2012, off the island of Giglio, 4252 people aboard, 33 dead including a salvage diver, the captain sentenced to sixteen years and the company fined after pleading guilty. The muster drill before sailing, compulsory everywhere today, follows directly from it.

What is included, and what is not

The fare covers the cabin, meals in the main restaurants and the buffet, evening shows, daytime entertainment, the children's club and port taxes. It covers neither the flight, nor insurance, nor drinks outside meals, nor excursions, nor speciality restaurants.

On the hotel service charge, let us be exact: it is mandatory under the contract, debited automatically to the onboard account each day, and adjustable on request at the front desk during the cruise only. It is neither a free gratuity nor an inclusion.

An advisor's remark on excursions. The catalogue runs past two thousand options, which is a real strength on itineraries with a daily call. It is also the item that most often derails a budget, because nobody goes ashore empty-handed seven days running.

Arranging this trip from Montreal

The flight is booked separately. Plan a night on site before embarkation, and keep the return day free: an early disembarkation and a tight connection sit badly together. Mediterranean ports are often reached non-stop from Montreal for part of the year; the others need a connection.

The contract of passage provides for Italian law and the courts of Genoa, exclusively. The carrier is an Italian company; the North American entity is its sales agent and not the carrier. The Athens Convention, invoked in the contract, caps liability for personal injury.

Nothing establishes that this line holds a Quebec travel agent's licence. Your protection comes from the licensed agency: Voyages AquaTerra deposits your payments in a trust account and your file falls under the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, in mid-September 2026. She has been sold to an American company and will return to sea from Miami on 9 January 2027 under another name, after a full refit planned for late 2026.
The forty-two dates sitting with us are her last under the Costa flag. Any proposal beyond mid-September 2026 on this ship must be checked before it is confirmed.
She passes to an American company whose fleet consists entirely of former Costa ships. Refit in late 2026, then a maiden voyage from Miami on 9 January 2027.
Two thousand seven hundred and two at double occupancy, in 1358 cabins. The maximum capacity the line publishes is markedly higher because it counts third and fourth berths.
No. Fewer than forty per cent have one on this generation of hull, and a large share are inside. If a balcony matters, check the category before paying a deposit.
Models of twenty-six ships from the line's historic fleet, in an Art Deco setting. It is a genuine curiosity, and it takes on a particular weight on a ship about to leave that fleet.
Eight since mid-September 2026, against sixteen in 2019. Seven hulls were sold or transferred to other brands, one was scrapped in Turkey. The fleet has been halved in six years.
No. A hotel service charge is added to your onboard account every day, and the North American contract calls it mandatory. It is adjusted at the front desk during the cruise only: after disembarkation it is final.
No, the flight is booked separately, and transfers are included only when they are part of the package purchased. From Montreal, several Mediterranean ports are reached non-stop for part of the year.
Twenty-seven according to third-party databases derived from deck plans. The line publishes no official table: the figure is indicative and never contractual. Have the cabin validated before a deposit.
Italian law, before the courts of Genoa exclusively. The carrier is an Italian company; the North American entity is only its sales agent. The contract also invokes the Athens Convention, which caps liability.
It depends on the ground. Costa still operates eight ships: two liquefied natural gas ships in the Mediterranean and the Canaries, four of one class spread between the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Asia and the fjords, and two singular ones.
November 2003. She measures 272 metres and shares her platform with ships built for the same group's North American brand, which explains some of her proportions.
The eastern Mediterranean out of Istanbul, after a 2025-2026 winter in the Canaries. It is her last programme under this name: there will be no following season with this line.
