    The four questions to put to an advisor

    A client looking for a ship they remember precisely is often told "she no longer exists", which settles nothing. Here is what to ask to get something useful.

    First: has the ship disappeared, or has the route disappeared? They are not the same thing. On the Elbe, two ships were replaced but the itinerary is still sold.

    Second: which current hull has the same capacity? On this fleet, the answer shapes the atmosphere on board far more than the name does.

    Third: which ship works that river today? That is the question that really matters, because people almost never remember a ship — they remember a river.

    Fourth: which season gives the closest experience? An October memory is not found again in July, even on the right river.

    What we know about this one

    That she is no longer in the fleet, and nothing more. We publish no hypothesis about what became of the hull: our sources do not say. Viking Prestige sets out the difference between a withdrawn ship and one simply without dates in our system.

    The current Longships are identical: 135 metres, 190 guests, 53 crew. Viking Tor offers 152 departures on the Danube, and Viking Hlin 118 on the Rhine.
