Be aware that the crowd skews distinctly older — the average age is around 65, and a couple in their thirties will be among the youngest on board. With 3,140 guests at double occupancy spread across 19 decks, you rarely queue. The pace is relaxed and evenings wind down early.
Its Riviera deck. The Caribbean Princess is a modified Grand-class ship: Princess added a full extra deck of staterooms that its sisters don't have, making it the largest of its class. It was also purpose-built for year-round Caribbean sailing, so the main pool has no retractable roof — worth knowing before a fall foliage sailing on the St. Lawrence.
Yes. The Caribbean Princess was one of the first Grand-class ships converted to MedallionClass. The Medallion is a quarter-sized token worn on your wrist or around your neck: it unlocks your stateroom without a card, acts as your onboard payment method, speeds up embarkation and lets you order a drink wherever you are. It does register your position on board — that's what makes delivery and finding your travel companions work. Sharing your location with other guests is entirely optional.
A balcony, ideally on the Caribe deck. On Grand-class ships, Caribe deck balconies are known to be deeper than the rest and half-covered — genuinely useful for staying outside in the Saguenay Fjord on a cool morning. Inside cabins are fine if you only sleep there, but note the bathrooms on this ship are small. Avoid staterooms directly under the pool deck or above the Piazza.
The Piazza, the central atrium where the International Café, Vines wine bar and Crooners meet, is the heart of the ship. Extra-charge dining includes Crown Grill (steakhouse), Sabatini's (Italian), Steamers (seafood) and Planks BBQ. Up top, The Sanctuary is an adults-only retreat, and Movies Under the Stars plays films on a giant poolside screen.
In 2026 it sails the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, then Fort Lauderdale, and crosses to Copenhagen in spring 2027 for a Baltic season. The part that matters here: from August 21 to October 30, 2027, it runs 10- and 11-day voyages between Boston and Québec City. You board at the Port of Québec, overnight in town, then sail the Saguenay Fjord, Sept-Îles, Corner Brook, Charlottetown, Sydney and Halifax. No flight, no US customs, peak foliage season.
It was delivered in 2004 — over twenty years old, and in places it shows. The cherry-wood finishes and some layouts are visibly of their era. That said, the ship has been refitted seriously: seven new dining venues in 2017, a completely rebuilt buffet, renovated youth centres, new bedding, then the MedallionClass installation. A well-maintained ship, not a new one.
Three things come up repeatedly. Stateroom bathrooms are genuinely cramped. The décor feels dated to anyone stepping off a newer ship like Sun Princess. And reaching the Palm Dining Room requires an odd detour across deck 7. Add that the main pool is fully open to the sky: on the St. Lawrence in October, it sees little use.
The base fare covers your cabin, main dining rooms, buffet, Princess Theater shows, pools and the fitness centre. Extra: drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, shore excursions and extra-charge restaurants such as Crown Grill and Sabatini's. Not in the base fare. Princess automatically applies a daily charge called Crew Appreciation to your onboard account, scaled to your stateroom category. It is included if you book the Princess Plus or Princess Premier package. On an 11-day Québec City to Boston voyage that difference adds up — run the numbers with your advisor before you book.
It's sold as a full bundle, not just drinks. Princess Plus covers fifteen drinks a day under a set per-drink value, plus specialty coffees and bottled water. Princess Premier removes the daily limit and raises the per-drink ceiling. Both also cover Wi-Fi and gratuities. On board, Crooners and Vines in the Piazza are the natural gathering spots. Yes — it's among the best at sea. The ship runs MedallionNet, the network Princess built around its Medallion, fast enough for video calls and streaming. Princess Plus covers one device; Princess Premier covers four with priority bandwidth. A bonus on a St. Lawrence itinerary: hugging the coast, Canadian cellular service is often usable in port.
Better equipped than most Princess ships, but be realistic about the atmosphere. The Caribbean Princess is one of the ships whose youth centres were fully rebuilt: The Treehouse for ages 3 to 7, The Lodge for 8 to 12, The Beach House for teens, all complimentary during the day. On a Caribbean sailing during March break there will be children. On a Québec City to Boston sailing in October, very few.
It gets useful at the third tier. You reach Gold after your first cruise, Ruby after three cruises or thirty days, Platinum after five cruises or fifty days, Elite after fifteen cruises or 150 days. The Wi-Fi discount arrives at Ruby; complimentary laundry, shore excursion discounts and priority disembarkation at Platinum. An 11-day Québec City to Boston voyage moves the counter quickly.
Unlikely on a Canada & New England itinerary. At 112,894 gross tons with stabilizers, the ship handles swell well, and the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Fjord portions are sheltered, close to motionless. If you're sensitive, book a midship cabin on a lower deck rather than high and forward, and pack tablets for the open-water legs toward Halifax and Boston.
