Viking Schumann: out of the fleet, her route is still sold

No departures in our catalogue, absence from the roster Viking publishes, absence from the master list verified against the company's own pages. Three independent instruments, one answer, as at 25 August 2026.

    The succession on the Elbe

Like Viking Fontane, this ship worked the Elbe before a new generation arrived. The Neptun Werft yard, of the Meyer group, delivered Viking Beyla and Viking Astrild for that river, and they now work the service.

The two current ships measure about 110 metres and carry 98 guests to 33 crew, with a shallow draught suited to a shallow, unregulated river.

    What that changes for you

Nothing, except the name on the hull. The Děčín-Wittenberg route still exists, with Dresden and Meissen as calls and Prague as a land extension. Viking Beyla offers 155 departures and Viking Astrild 152, measured on 25 August 2026.

One word on the Elbe, though: it is the European navigable river most exposed to low water, and itinerary modifications are more frequent there than elsewhere. That is not a reason to give it up, it is a reason to read the modification clause before signing. On the Rhine, where that risk is smaller, Viking Kara offers 151 departures.

Our Viking River Cruises advisors confirm in writing the exact fare, the inclusions and the applicable conditions before any booking, in line with Quebec consumer protection rules and participation in the compensation fund for travel agency customers.

    Frequently Asked Questions

No. No departures in our catalogue, absence from the roster the line publishes, absence from the master list. Three independent instruments, one answer.
Viking Beyla and Viking Astrild, delivered by the Neptun Werft yard of the Meyer group. They run the service between Děčín and Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
Viking Beyla offers 155 and Viking Astrild 152, measured on 25 August 2026 on the Děčín-Wittenberg route, in both directions.
98 guests and 33 crew, on about 110 metres. They are not Longships: the Elbe class has its own dimensions.
No, only the hull. The Děčín-Wittenberg run still exists, with Dresden and Meissen as calls and Prague as a land extension.
Low water. It is the European navigable river most exposed to it: neither engineered nor regulated like the Rhine, its flow depends on rainfall in Bohemia.
No. But read the itinerary-modification clause before signing and hold insurance covering committed costs. The risk is managed, not denied.
The ships of this class are designed with a very shallow draught. Even so, itinerary modifications remain more frequent than on the Rhine or the Danube.
No. We have no departures to sell on this ship and the line no longer lists her in its fleet.
Because the name still circulates. It is better that a search lands on a clear answer than on an error page.
The Frauenkirche, left forty-five years as a deliberately preserved ruin serving as a memorial, then rebuilt between 1994 and 2005 by reincorporating the original stones.
The town where Luther drew up his 95 theses in 1517. His house and the two churches tied to his work have been World Heritage sites since 1996.
Through three independent instruments: departures in our own catalogue, the roster the line publishes, and a master list verified ship by ship.
Not from Quebec. The reservations site there redirects to a page stating it is unavailable and inviting travellers to contact an agent.
In writing, before booking. AquaTerra Travels follows Quebec consumer protection rules and participates in the compensation fund for travel agency customers.
