The Danube, from Budapest to Amsterdam

AmaLea works the Danube and the Dutch and Belgian waterways, between Budapest, Vilshofen and Amsterdam. Our count on 26 August 2026 found 139 departure dates across three years.

A hundred and thirty-five metres, 156 guests, 78 cabins, delivered in 2018. It belongs to the second wave of the series, the one that removed cabins to enlarge the ones that remain.

The ship of the family programme on the Danube

This ship carries the departures the line runs with Disney's guided-travel brand on the Danube. On those specific dates, extra guides travel with the group and the outing programme is adapted to a younger audience.

The clarification that prevents disappointment: this does not change the ship. There is no children's club, no childcare and no permanent youth programme aboard. An ordinary date on this ship is a river cruise for adults, like the others in the fleet. If you are after the family supervision, it is the date you must choose, not just the ship.

The other ships in the fleet

AmaMora shares its configuration and network. AmaBella and AmaVerde work the Danube with the previous generation. AmaKristina carries the same partnership on the Rhône.

What is included, and the two things that are not

Included: accommodation, all meals, wine and beer at meals, soft drinks at any time, a daily cocktail, guided excursions at every port, Wi-Fi, and bicycles aboard the European ships.

Not included: gratuities and air travel. Gratuities are included on none of the line's destinations, not in Europe, not on the Mekong, not on the Nile, not in Colombia. The suggested amount changes from one destination to another; the rule does not. That is a real difference from several river lines in the same category, and it belongs in the budget from the start rather than being discovered at disembarkation.

The flight is booked separately or through the line's air programme. Your advisor will tell you what each arrangement covers.

The clientele aboard

Adult, with no youth programme and no childcare. Under-eighteens share a cabin with a responsible adult, and the minimum age changes by destination: stricter in Africa than in Europe. A family with young children will be better served elsewhere, and it is better to hear that now.

On access, the lift serves the main decks and stops short of the sun deck. Boarding gangways vary with the quay, and you sometimes cross a ship moored alongside to get ashore. Raise your mobility before booking rather than after.

The Quebec framework

Voyages AquaTerra holds a licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur. Your payments go into a trust account, and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents covers the situations set out in the Travel Agents Act, including a supplier's failure. The cover has defined limits, best explained to you before you pay a deposit.

Allow a connection, often two on distant itineraries, and a hotel night before embarkation. That night is not a luxury: it is the margin that absorbs a delayed flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Danube and the waterways of the Netherlands and Belgium, between Budapest, Vilshofen and Amsterdam. The full route links central Europe to the North Sea.
Our inventory measured 139 departure dates on 26 August 2026, across 2026, 2027 and 2028, between Budapest, Vilshofen and Amsterdam.
A hundred and fifty-six guests in 78 cabins, the second-wave configuration of the series, with seven cabins fewer than the 2010 to 2015 hulls.
Specific departures run with Disney's guided-travel brand: extra guides and an outing programme adapted to a younger audience. It does not apply to the other dates.
No. An ordinary date is a river cruise for adults, with no club and no childcare. If you are after the family supervision, it is the date you must choose, not just the ship.
In 2018, in the second wave of 135-metre hulls, the one that removed cabins to enlarge the ones that remain and add categories.
Yes, in the upper cabins: a sliding glass wall and a real outdoor balcony in the same cabin. The lower categories open onto a fixed window.
A hundred and thirty-five metres, the standard length of the European series. It fits everywhere on the Danube and on the Dutch network.
Yes, and it belongs in the budget from the start. The line includes them in its fare on no destination: not in Europe, not on the Mekong, not on the Nile, not in Colombia.
Not by default. The line offers its own air programme; outside that framework the ticket is booked separately. Your advisor will tell you which suits your departure best.
No, they are part of the fare. What sets this line apart is the grading of outings by effort level, announced before you choose.
It accepts minors without organising anything for them. Every traveller under eighteen shares a cabin with a responsible adult, and the minimum age tightens on the African journeys.
Only partly. The lift serves the main decks without reaching the sun deck, and boarding gangways vary from quay to quay. Reduced mobility is prepared for before departure.
Yes, free to use during port calls, including electrically assisted ones. In the Netherlands a bicycle covers a call far better than walking.
In Quebec, a licensed agency deposits the sums it receives into a trust account kept separate from its own funds. The Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents then steps in where the law provides.
