MSC Seascape: year-round from Galveston, seven nights in the Western Caribbean, and no Ocean Cay
MSC Seascape is MSC Seashore's twin, the second of the two Seaside EVO ships: 170,412 gross tons, 339 metres long by 41 wide, twenty decks and 2,270 cabins across 34 categories. It carries 4,540 guests at double occupancy and up to 5,877 with every berth filled, with 1,648 crew. Fincantieri built it at Monfalcone and delivered it on November 16, 2022; it was christened at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on December 7, 2022 and sailed its first commercial cruise from Miami on December 11. The ship is homeported in Galveston, Texas year-round since November 9, 2025, running seven-night cruises every Sunday.
Costa Maya, Cozumel, Roatán: one seven-night loop, week after week
The MSC Seascape program is steady and easy to read: Sunday departure from Galveston, Western Caribbean, calls at Costa Maya, Cozumel and Roatán, back the following Sunday. It makes an excellent first cruise, with generally calm water across the Gulf of Mexico. From Montreal, plan a flight to Houston, with nonstop service not guaranteed in every season, plus roughly an hour by road to the port. The transfer and a hotel night beforehand belong in the time budget, not in the optional column.
Ocean Cay is not on these itineraries
MSC's private island lies in the Bahamas, on the far side of the basin. Galveston sailings never come near it, and that regularly disappoints guests who saw the illuminated lighthouse in an MSC advertisement. Anyone who wants that particular day should look at its twin, MSC Seashore, which includes Ocean Cay on every departure, berths alongside and sometimes stays into the evening.
Built for heat, and for thrills
The Seaside EVO class was drawn for outdoor living, and MSC Seascape commits to it fully: a two-level open promenade wrapping the hull, balcony cabins opening onto that promenade, panoramic elevators mounted outside the ship and an infinity pool aft. On top of that sits a set of attractions found nowhere else in the fleet, starting with Robotron, a ride on the end of a 53-metre robotic arm that swings you out over the sea, then the Bridge of Sighs, a glass-floored catwalk suspended 22 metres above the aft pool, Pirates Cove Aquapark with five slides, the Adventure Trail ropes course, a Formula 1 simulator and a 5D cinema. Several of those carry a charge.
What you hear on board, and what lands on the bill
MSC Seascape is still a European ship operated for a North American market: announcements and signage run in five or six languages including French, which sets MSC Cruises apart from its American rivals even though English and Spanish lead out of Galveston. On cost, meals in the three main dining rooms and the Marketplace Buffet, theatre shows, the pools, Pirates Cove Aquapark and the kids clubs are included. Alcohol, specialty coffee, bottled water, specialty restaurants, Robotron, the simulator, Wi-Fi, the thermal spa and the daily service charge are not. With nineteen bars aboard, the onboard account climbs quickly if nobody is watching.
Two ships to compare with MSC Seascape
MSC Seaside offers the same philosophy in a shorter format out of Miami, with a nonstop flight from Montreal and Ocean Cay every week. MSC World Europa represents the other direction the line has taken, the 215,863-ton LNG-powered flagship: for winter 2026-2027 it works the Southern Caribbean from Fort-de-France, Pointe-à-Pitre and Bridgetown, two of them French-speaking homeports.
Who should skip MSC Seascape
Outside the MSC Yacht Club, service is competent but impersonal: MSC runs one of the leanest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry and it shows at peak hours. The Marketplace Buffet and the elevators jam at midday, even though the outdoor spaces absorb the rest of the day well. Food divides opinion, and guests used to Carnival or Royal Caribbean often find the buffet more European than abundant. Travellers who want quiet, polished service and small crowds should book the MSC Yacht Club, its 131 suites and two Owner's Suites over four decks, or choose a different line. And this ship does not call at Ocean Cay from Galveston, which no package can fix.
